Job Summary :
The person hired for the position of Portfolio Manager, Private Markets will serve as a fiduciary and will be responsible for managing the majority of 3Ms $4.0 billion in private investments in the US and most significant international retirement portfolios. These investments include private equity, hedge funds and private credit in fund investments and custom separate accounts. The person holding this position will report directly to the President of 3M Investment Management Corporation (3M IMC) and will be recommended to the board of 3M IMC, 3Ms investment subsidiary and named fiduciary of the U.S. retirement plans, to serve as an officer of the organization.
This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government, or military environments to a 3M career.
Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Develop private market investment strategy for major 3M retirement plans
Lead, source, diligence and recommend investment decisions in private markets including private equity, hedge funds and private credit in U.S. retirement plans and several international plans
Manage certain external relationships with private investment strategic partners
As a senior leader of the investment team, provide important input into strategic asset liability management objectives and portfolio decisions through the organizations investment committee process
Share private market perspective in interactions with ten-person investment team on a variety of day-to-day investment issues
Possess a Bachelors degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in private markets including private equity, private credit, and/or hedge fund investing in a private, public, government, or military environment
Supervisory or management experience in a private, public, government, or military environment
MBA, CFA or masters degree in a related field
Advanced problem solving, financial modeling, analytical skills including ability to understand and analyze complex investment concepts
Fundamental understanding of economics, asset allocation and investment theory
Proven ability to work independently in an unstructured environment under uncertainty
Experience presenting investment topics to investment committees or boards
Location: Maplewood, MN
Travel: May include up to 30% domestic/international travel
